Generally when this goes wrong at the moment, it's because it's spending a large amount of mana to get a small amount of mana. The shortage of known resources is why this trips it up so often. Possible new resources include +1/+1 counters, charge counters... maybe cards in graveyard...? People are free to contribute or edit if they wish, anyway.
