Vash the Stampede, the Humanoid Typhoon, designated an Act of God, a traditional AnimeFoodLover?, a superb marksman and an absolute pacifist, wanted for 60 billion billion double dollars.
Nicholas D Wolfwood, a travelling priest who carries a heavy cross taller than he is. The quote about said cross, which is guaranteed to get a HystericalGiggleOfApproval? from Nagi:

: "Why is it so heavy?"
: "'Cause it's so full of mercy."

Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson of the Bernadelli Insurance Society, sent to watch Vash and restrain him where necessary so the Bernadelli Society doesn't have to shell out every time a town is wrecked by the Humanoid Typhoon. (Known respectively as Derringer Meryl (thanks for the correction, Requiem) and Stun-gun Milly. There is something incredibly cool about those nicknames. --FR)
A variety of really evil bad guys.

Style

A quite unique presentation, as the sensation that a sci-fi anime is being watched is evident from the start, despite all the evidence pointing to a western style. That said, there aren't many western animes around either...

Other comments

Starts off very funny and gets serious. Maintains humour throughout, but becomes a lot more focused on the story towards the end, rather like the SlayersSeries.
