AR - It's gone into the toe part of my boots and even I don't venture down that far... It's not true to say I have a grue in my shoe, but a groe in my boot. This is sad because it means I currently have a grue eating my toe. Ouch

It is very dark...

You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

(That is, of course, unless you have discovered the joy of AncientDomainsOfMystery and already know the best way to deal with grues.)

AR - What if one has not discovered the joy of AncientDomainsOfMystery and thus does not know the best way to deal with them.  In fact, I was idly speculating on what one should do if one were to find a grue in one's shoe?

NT - Depending on the kind of grue, either don't be doomed, or treat it as a combination of demon and elemental.  In other words, zot it with extreme prejudice.

NT - Oh, I hate it when that happens.  I almost got new boots the last time.  That's probably the easiest solution; if you've got some nice bright lights, though, grues don't like them much.  The trouble is that you can't very easily shoo the grue from your shoe - you only have one hole, down which you must shine the light and out of which the grue must come.  All in all, a nasty problem.  You have my sympathy.

Senji - I've always found that giving her a big hug works, but then the Grue I know is an antipodean Grue, so...

"The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is either adventurers or enchanters, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its horrible fear of light. No grues have ever been seen by the light of day, and only a few have been observed in their underground lairs. Of those who have seen grues, few ever survived their fearsome jaws to tell the tale."
