Sergei Lukjanenko is a well-known Russian science-fiction and fantasy writer. His urban fantasy novels Night Watch, The Day Watch, The Twilight Watch and The Last Watch have been translated into English and are excellent reads. Rather less well-known, there is a partial translation (by Moonshadow) of his children's fantasy Door into Darkness (aka The Boy and The Darkness) here. He also regularly writes opinion pieces for a an online publication called Vzglyad, which could be translated as 'Gaze' or 'the Observer' ;) This one, written in February, is about socialism, and why it can't work in this world.
