It seems like an age to Mina, but at last the patroller speaks again.
"Thank you for your time, citizen."
She breathes out in relief. As the patrollers leave, she can still hear scraps of their conversation carrying through the night air.
"The timing's wrong. He can't have been involved."
"Keep an eye on him, all the same."
Half-undressed, she gets into bed and stares at the thing Inric gave her, still troubled.
