"I have a suggestion," Inric says hesitantly. "It would be of assistance to the library. And to me." The words don't come easily. "If you could look after this room."
"What, me too?" Jakin asks, looking round. "I'm not a librarian."
"But you can build shelves," Inric says. Beside him Mina is lost for words, her face alight with joy.
"Yes!"
"You may keep the world-bridge," Inric says, "but use it only to come here."
"And can I - when I'm fixing shelves - can I read the books?"
"It would be an insult to them if you did not," Inric says, and Mina's delighted giggle tells him one person, at least, understood his humour.
