"Did they have the arrangement with the Bakers' Guild back then?" Ffion asks. Seren's gran hands her a plate with a bread roll and a lump of cheese on and nods.
"They did. Their mum arranged it. Your great-great-grandma." She sits back in her chair. "She started out with a table near the airship docks. She was a dab hand at baking too, you know. Even before she got friendly with the Bakers' Guild."
"She got friendly with them?"
"Well, with one of them. She had a Guild man as a lover. But even he couldn't get the girls apprenticed, since they were from out of town and had no formal link to the Guild. Anyway, he managed to get it signed and sealed, and serve them right. It's a proper legal compact, else they'd've wiggled out of it ages ago."
