"What if I was?" Ffion knows she's pushing her luck, but she is too angry to hold back. Her great-aunt shrugs, affecting nonchalance.
"I think you'll find the City guard are very busy people." She gives Ffion a cold look. "They have better things to do than harass respectable people like us. And if they do come, well, they won't find anything here."
"You would
bribe the City guards?!" Ffion is aghast.
"Of course not." She waves a dismissive hand. "But it's not like they're a Guild. We are finished here. You can go."
"But I want to see Rhodri and Gwyn!" Ffion protests.
"There is nothing more we want from you," the old lady says, without even bothering to turn round. Ithel gives her a weird look as he follows his grandmother out of the room.
