At first, the special wing doesn't look any different to any other part of the library, but beyond the third door, there are no bookshelves, not even empty or broken ones. Here the rooms are small stone chambers with strange platforms and cubbyholes built in. Mina and Jakin peer through the doors in wonder.
"This is not like the library," Ylva says in careful Eldarin.
"These are breeding rooms," Inric says, but nobody understands the unfamiliar word.
"Breeding rooms?" Magistra Colle asks.
"Breeding rooms," Inric says, this time in Eynvardis, and repeats it again in Ossechian. Four pairs of eyes are abruptly riveted on him. "Don't speak loudly," he goes on, switching back to Eldarin. "Stay by the door."
In the final room, the one furthest from the library, the four newcomers cluster round the door and stare at the nest Copper and his mate built underneath one of the platforms. His familiar form is crouched on top of the platform, eyeing the visitors with caution but no real alarm. She is curled up underneath, head raised to watch them too, and lying in the crook of her tail are three fluffy bookwyrm kits.
