Eventually (the less said about the climb, the better), Inric reaches his destination and knocks on the door of the grand house nestled in the enormous tree. It opens to reveal a polite expression edged with feathers.
"I have come about a book," Inric says in Garan.
"Please wait a moment," the maid says. "I will tell Taan Berik." She disappears, and Inric looks up to the canopy soaring over his head, letting green light through between patches of broken shade. It's uncomfortably warm.
"Please come this way." The maid beckons him into a remarkably prosaic hall, and along to a room at the end, clearly a study of some kind. A man - presumably Taan Berik - turns to face Inric.
"You are the messenger from Prytanis, I presume?"
"No."
