"We no longer link magic to prayer and worship," Inric says, sitting up awkwardly. Strands of tousled hair have come loose from his braid.
"But magic is the gift of the gods," Prytanis says.
"That may be, but it is not necessary to petition them every time it is used."
"So tha use no rituals?"
"Some find rituals useful. Traditional patterns of words or movement help reinforce the intent. But they are not required."
"Do all thy kin practice magic? It is not restricted?"
"Not by practitioner," Inric says, wondering if that means only clerics use magic in Ahl Serin, "but by location and use."
"What do tha mean?"
"It is inappropriate to change reality on a whim, and too much usage risks instability."
"So what do thy kin use it for?"
"Maintaining structures. Protecting and increasing crops. Enhancing health and enabling healing."
"And to travel between worlds," Prytanis finishes off, and there is no mistaking the smug tone in his voice.
