Inric opens his eyes to see Copper staring intently at him. His whole body feels heavy and stiff, but when he raises his hand to stroke the bookwyrm's head, it moves naturally. It doesn't hurt, but his head does; he touches his temple and feels the cotton of a bandage over the ache of a wound.
"Ah, it is your creature, then?" The speaker is using Waeden, which answers his first question. Inric looks up to see a smiling man wearing a cowl over a habit, standing at the end of the low bed on which he is lying. "I found it with you after the sixth liturgy," he continues, "and couldn't persuade it to leave. How are you feeling? Do you understand me?"
