"You should do something about it!" Aeshe insists. "Wil's always here, isn't he? Just say he was here when Dunstan was killed!"
"I can't do that," Aldus says, the words heavy on his tongue.
"Why not?!"
"Because I was at the dawn chorale with the rest of the Orderhouse."
"So what's going to happen to my brother?"
"I will make sure he is released." Aldus closes his eyes, accepting the inevitable.
"How?"
"Well," and he makes his voice light, like it doesn't matter, "at worst, I'll have to tell the truth."
She draws away, face closed and cold. "You should have been doing that anyway,
Brother!"
She's right, of course.
