"You left it behind." Aldus pulls the book from his bag.
"I thought it best not to take it into a fight."
"May I ask where it came from?" Aldus holds the book out, to Inric's relief.
"It originates from the Great Library of my people."
"And you are a librarian?"
"At present." Copper sits up on his hind legs and nuzzles the book in Inric's hand.
"You appreciated the books I lent you before," Aldus says, somewhat tentatively.
"I did." Inric has an idea where this is going, but waits for Aldus to speak.
"I have borrowed some more recent texts," he says, then adds hastily, "with permission! Would you be interested in having copies for your library?"
