"Anwyn and Dera are going to Lethey too, so you won't be the only Mogu with the caravan," Kelyn's mother says as she and Kelyn carry the chest up the cliff path to where the wagons are parked.
"The ones with the Elester tattoos?" Kelyn can only vaguely remember their faces.
"Yes. They want to set up a new collaboration in Lethey, if they can find any lace makers there."
"Look, there's the magician!" Cadok says, pointing at a pair of uplanders just across from them. One is wearing flowing robes, and his bare forearms reveal cascading patterns of tattoos which are echoed on his cheeks and neck. The other is the visitor who brought the food. He grins and waves at the excited child.
"Don't point, Cadok. He might turn you into a frog!"
Unfazed, Cadok giggles.
When they reach Jory's wagon, Ruan comes out to help haul the chest inside.
"You're sure you want to stay here tonight?"
"Yes, mum." Kelyn doesn't, really, but she had promised. Ruan swaps places with her.
"All right. We'll come and say goodbye tomorrow morning."
She waves as her family depart, feeling oddly unsettled.
