"I can't see him," Hian says when she and Rohin make it to the foot of the stairs.
"He must be here somewhere... Unless..." Rohin tails off.
"Unless what?"
"There's the afternoon blessing. He may have gone in with the juniors."
"For a blessing? You mean - he'll be performing a glimmer? Oh no..." Hian feels her heart clench with dread. Rohin stares at her, not understanding, but how could he?
"Is that a problem?" he asks. "Surely Diran's son..." he falters. "Hian - has he ever been tested?"
"No. He has never been to a ritual hall." Hian swallows. "I already lost Diran! How could I risk losing his son?!"
