"Chorath-Eledhrin? Isn't that the clan which got attacked just before the war?" Anvar had asked, only a few days or so ago. And Inric remembers gossip overheard when he was walking through the Great Library, happily engrossed in a book. He had brushed aside the comments about Ashan-Gethir picking yet another fight with Chorath-Eledhrin, because it hadn't been of interest or concern to him then. And after returning the book which Hian had helped retrieve, he had looked up the records, but they showed only the filing of a claim by Chorath-Eledhrin upon Kaleir, dated to the Hollow Moon of 1459. A later note had shown the withdrawal of that claim due to the presence of autochthenes, in 1463. Which of course was - if not a lie, then skirting around the truth. They'd known about the autochthenes long before. The lie, the bigger lie, had been hinted at by Davo.
"The rumour was that the Ashan-Gethir had been ordered to leave," he'd said. "Not by the other wizards, but by some kind of higher-up. They didn't want to go. Said they'd been here longer, which they had. Said they'd been cheated somehow."
