I apologise for the slightly odd formatting in this strip and the next
one. It's the result of
Photoshop seven, which is an abomination. Paint Shop Pro 5 was better,
and that
didn't even try to pretend it had vector support. I'm sure the later
versions of Photoshop are fine, but I only have Mac OS 9.2, so 7 is the
limit for me (and even finding a trial of it was hard enough). I
should've downloaded
an Illustrator trial instead, but I can't bring myself to go through
another two-hour download ^.^;;
There's a little convention-type
thing on next March for UK webcomics
and small press comics. I think we're going, but I'm not sure about
actually exhibiting - the tables are expensive and we don't have all that much Phoenix Feathers merchandise - but we shall see.
Sharing a
table is the way to go, I think.
Speaking of webcomics and so on, Phoenix Feathers will actually have
finished by the time the 'web comix thing'
happens,
and we'll have
started a new comic. We're already debating plot and characters. I
really like the beginning of a project, when all the details slot into
place and characters start taking form. It will be quite different from
Phoenix Feathers; I really don't want to end up with instantly
recognisable re-used characters. I think there might be, occasionally,
Phoenix Feathers
one-offs (not within the webcomic timeline but separately), because I'm
fond of the characters and of the world, and I
don't want to leave it behind completely - but equally, I don't want to
wreck the story by prolonging/extending it a la the Matrix. However, I
have been
wondering about making printed comics from extended sequences. Most of
Phoenix
Feathers is done so each strip is a separate entity, but there are
sequences that could work. The most obvious one is the summoning of
Sha'am (starting here). I
think the current somewhat disconnected sequence would be improved
quite a bit by a rewrite :) It's not
like there aren't already enough comics I'm trying to do, but I would
like to do it. Some time. It'd be nice if just a little bit of
the three years of Phoenix
Feathers could be printed ^.^
