BoardGames / CardGames

The one game that I'd have to list as my favourite is MagicTheGathering. This is partly because I'm such a neophile: I love new games and new gaming experiences. It's depressing how many really good games sit on our BoardGames shelves having only been played a few times; I'm just a fan of new mental exercises. MagicTheGathering manages to keep on delivering this, by the twin tactics of allowing customised deckbuilding (so when I build a new MtG deck, the feeling is quite similar to when I get a new BoardGame), and continuing to release new cards (so the number of possible decks keeps on growing). Even within MtG, my excessive neophilic tendencies are visible: a block of MtG sets that I really enjoyed two years ago will often have only passing interest to me now.

Other BoardGames that I particularly like, and for which that like has stood the test of time, are:

Anime

Listing my favourites here is also something of a surprise to me. I think of myself as a fan of Shoujo anime, and I still think I'm more likely to like a random Shoujo anime than a random Shounen anime. But most of those anime that make it onto my all-time favourites list are Shounen, and indeed several involve GiantFightingRobots, despite the way I'm not much of a fan of mecha. My current theory is that I have a surprising soft spot for the combination of "working towards good for society against a common enemy" and "being part of a community with common aims" that's provided by a lot of fictional military settings, and most anime with a significant military component are shounen.

So my all-time favourite anime are:

There are a number of other anime which are close to the above list, including but not limited to: most other StudioGhibli, FullMetalAlchemist, IrresponsibleCaptainTylor, Nadesico, Monster, KareKano (1-4), OuranHostClub?, [ToraDora].

And then there's the anime that I wouldn't call "favourite", but I just appreciate for being very good and enjoyable: these include AzumangaDaioh, BannerOfTheStars and sequels, [.hack//SIGN, FruitsBasket, HaibaneRenmei, JuuniKokki, LastExile, MahoutsukaiTai, NowAndThenHereAndThere (okay, "enjoyable" is the wrong word for that one), OutlawStar, PlanetES, ScrappedPrincess, StarshipOperators, TriGun, and Zipang?.

Cheeses

I am a big fan of a good bit of cheese. I like most cheeses; but there are many that stand out above the rest. Cheeses of which I'm a big fan include:
Two cheeses, though, stand out above the rest:
2) Port Salut. An old classic: slightly soft, smooth and creamy, and just generally delicious.
1) Cornish Cruncher with Balsamic Onion. Only available from Marks & Spencer. Their just plain "Cornish Cruncher" is a decent cheddar; good enough, but nothing to jump up and down about. But the version with balsamic vinegar and pickled onions blended through is truly astonishing. Apparently it won a Bronze Medal in the World Cheese Awards, which makes me want to try the Silver and Gold! But until that point, at least, it's the most amazing cheese I've ever tasted.
