"Why isn't he driving?" Peran demands, as the uplander who brought the basket of food approaches too. "Is he all right?"
"He's fine," Kelyn says shortly.
"How do you know? Did you check on him?" Peran pulls himself onto the wagon platform.
"I didn't need to. He was snoring."
"Well, he's not now," Peran says grimly, and pushes past her into the wagon interior. There is a short pause, then a yelp, and he retreats hurriedly back to the open air.
"What happened?" Kelyn asks. Peran scowls.
"He's fine. Well enough to take a swing at me when I tried to check his temperature."
