Shrey does not come out to bid Hian farewell, but the rest of the family do. Hian waves and promises to be back before dusk. Then she is off, appreciating the morning and the peace of being alone, not something she often gets to enjoy.
A mile or so on, now deep in the trees, she stops, then turns abruptly. A flash of movement twenty feet behind her confirms her suspicions, and she scowls.
"Come out, Nikhil!" she calls. "I know you're behind that tree!"
