"Now, never mind all that," Aneth says, taking a seat at the nearest table. "What's wrong?"
"Wrong?"
"You look even gloomier than usual. And the rest of your friends in the library said you had been upset."
"Ah." Invar looks away as he takes the seat next to her. When he starts speaking, it's not what she expected.
"When I first came to the Library," Invar says, "it was everything I hoped it would be. It was a place of no expectations. Well. Scholarly expectations, not familial ones. There was so much to learn and so much more to contribute. And... I felt it was for everyone. Not just one clan. The library was always for all Eldarin."
"Mmhm," Aneth says, in an encouraging tone.
"And so when I came back, and found it abandoned, and the books missing - I felt it was appropriate to do what I could to restore it." He looks directly at her. "Even if I never achieved it, I had that memory to work towards."
